While the reasons you’re searching for jobs or careers at home may be varied, there are many options for you no matter what your skill or education level. Some of these jobs will require you to get a little bit of training or develop a new skill before you dive in, and I’ve tried to provide tips on how and where to do that as much as possible!

From reselling clothing online to making passive income through Etsy, If you are looking for work from home jobs you can do in 2021, here are my top 20 choices!

Legit Work From Home Jobs You Can Start in 2021

1. Transcriptionist

Are you a good typist? Apply to transcribe or caption for Rev! Here’s how Rev works: Businesses who have video or audio that they need transcribed/captioned can get it done quickly through Rev, and Rev hires freelancers to do the transcription typing for them! It’s a win for businesses who need items transcribed quickly, and a win for people like you who would love to make money from home through transcribing the video and audio files! Apply here. Sometimes Rev is not taking new applicants, it really just depends on the time you are reading this. However, I have had readers get hired, so keep looking back if this is something that interests you!

If you want to get into more advanced transcribing, there are some great options. This would be for you if you want a transcribing career that you can do from home long-term, and that pays better than something like Rev. You will need to get trained, but after you are trained you can start finding transcription jobs with doctors, dentists, and lawyers and making good money.

I recommend taking the Free General Transcription Mini-Course from Janet Shaughnessy at Transcribe Anywhere. If you prefer e-books, then read her free ebook The Truth About Transcription. This will help you get your feet wet, decide if this is the career for you, and she also has advanced training courses ($150-800) that you can work up to if you decide to proceed with Transcription. These advanced courses are very thorough. They will help train you, get you certified, help you find clients, and so on. Transcribe Anywhere is really a one-stop-shop for a starting a career as a transciptionist.

2. Customer Service Representative with Amazon

If you have previous customer service/call center experience, are highly organized, and enjoy talking to strangers, then a virtual or work-from-home customer service job with Amazon could be the best side hustle for you to make money from the comfort of your own home.

As an Amazon Customer Service Associate, you will help a variety of Amazon customers via phone, chat and email. You will listen to customers’ needs, provide accurate information regarding their queries, solve problems, and deliver timely results.

A remote customer service job with Amazon is the perfect side hustle for anyone who wants to work as an independent contractor to earn extra money.

If you want to work as an Amazon Customer Service Associate, Apply here.

3. Re-sell or Flip Items

Reselling is hot right now, and for good reason! It’s fun, eco-friendly, and a good money maker!

Source clothes and goods from local thrift stores like Goodwill, Savers, Salvation Army, or another consignment shop. Look for top brands and good quality items for cheap, and resell them online on eBay, Poshmark, Mercari, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, and even Instagram for a profit.

This is the perfect way to turn your passion for shopping sales, thrifting, and visiting yard sales into a profitable side hustle because you can literally flip anything!

If you need a little training, the best teachers in this genre are Rob and Melissa from Flea Market Flipper who flip all kinds of items full-time. They have a free flipping workshop to go over the basics and determine if flipping would be a good fit for you (they have other free workshops too). If you’re ready to dive in and make money, they also have a more thorough paid course called Flipper University (currently has a waitlist) where they teach you everything you need to know to find your niche and start flipping for big profits (and make your money back quickly).

This could easily be done as a side hustle but you can also grow it to a full time income if you put the time in.

4. Start an Etsy Shop

Do you have an idea for a handmade or digital product? Start selling it on Etsy.com! It’s $0.20 to list a product and they charge you low fees when your products sell, so you have only cents to lose.

If you feel like selling on Etsy is too complicated for you, there are tons of YouTube videos on everything from how to take successful product pictures to how to describe your product. Everything you need to know can be found in a free video.

It’s easy to work, easy to sell, and easy to make money on Etsy. Make sure you take great photos to entice people to buy your products! I have had an Etsy shop for almost 4 years and it has been profitable for me since day one. I still make about $150 a month from it even though I haven’t touched it in months since I have my own website now.

5. Rent Your Car

If you don’t need regular use of your vehicle you can actually rent it out on Turo to make some extra cash! Turo is a car-sharing marketplace, basically like Airbnb, but instead of houses, it’s cars!

This is perfect if you have an extra vehicle lying around, travel regularly and don’t need your vehicle, don’t drive on the weekends, etc.

I’m in a Facebook group for people who plan to retire early, and I once saw a guy on there share that he makes several thousand per month with Turo as his very profitable side-gig!

Note: Please make sure you have appropriate car insurance to participate in car-sharing services! I believe Turo covers this as well, but make sure you check into your own car insurance and how it works with Turo.

6. Renting out your space

If you have a spare room or travel so often that you’d like to rent your house out, check out Airbnb or Vrbo! Turn your spare room into a cash machine for travelers who are looking for a deal on a place to stay!

You could also purchase a rental property or condo and use Airbnb or Vrbo to rent it out as a vacation rental.

7. Rent Parking Space

If you have land and you want to make some extra cash for literally doing nothing, consider renting a parking space for boats, RVs or other large items that people don’t have the space for or access to in their own lives. You can do this by visiting Neighbor or Justpark. Genius!

8. Dropship

If you have a strong marketing background and a knack for selling online, then you can start a dropshipping business as a side hustle.

This is where you list a product of a third-party supplier on your online store and when your customer purchases the product, you purchase the product from the third-party supplier, i.e. your dropshipping supplier, that then ships the product directly to the customer.

The customer pays you retail price for the order and you pay the supplier wholesale price for the same order. The difference between the price you charge your customer and the price your supplier charges you is your profit.

With dropshipping, you do not hold inventory for the product you sell on your online store. Once you have decided on a product you want to sell, here is how dropshipping business model works:

  • You list the product of a third-party supplier (your dropshipping supplier) on your dropshipping online store
  • Your customer orders the product at retail price on your online store
  • The order is automatically sent to your dropshipping supplier
  • You pay the supplier wholesale price for the product
  • The supplier ships the order directly to the customer

With Shopify, you can set up your own dropshipping site even if you are not tech savvy. Once you have set up your Shopify dropshipping online store, you can link products from dropshippers to your store using a dropshipping app like Oberlo.

9. Babysitting or Nannying

This is perfect if you’re a stay-at-home parent and have the ability to take on another kiddo to bring in some extra money! Find babysitting jobs through care.com. It’s free to sign up and create a care provider profile

I scored a nannying job through care.com in 2015 and I’ve used it to find care providers for my own kids before too! It is excellent. You can also find great babysitting jobs through word of mouth, Facebook, and leaving business cards at local restaurants and shops.

Parents are desperate right now for good childcare, so don’t underestimate the power of word-of-mouth and how much money you can make babysitting or nannying!

10. Teach Virtually

VIPKid is a company that provides English lessons to kids in China through an online classroom. To become a teacher, you must have a Bachelor’s degree (of any kind), one year of experience working with kids (this is flexible: teaching, camp counselor, nannying, even babysitting), and a computer with WiFi.

You don’t need to speak Chinese or any other foreign language, and you don’t need a teaching degree. The hours tend to be funky because you are working with kids in China via video chat, so plan on early mornings and late nights. VIPKid takes care of all the curriculum and gets you set up with teaching sessions.

Since VIPKid became so popular, another company, QKids, has jumped on this profitable bandwagon. Education First is another great option! Make sure to apply to all three if you really want to teach from home, but I do have a strong preference for VIPKid.

You can also check out Care.com for tutoring jobs, or just start your own virtual tutoring business and find clients through word of mouth and Facebook.

I have several friends who do this, and they love it!

11. Virtual Assistant

As blogging and small online businesses grow, so do their needs to hire out work they can’t handle any longer (I would know, because I am a blogger and this is exactly what happened to me!). Virtual Assisting is a booming business that is easily done from home.

There are easily accessible training courses you can take to learn how to become a top-notch VA and get hired by bloggers. The VA Ninja Course is a great place to start!

Bloggers and small businesses will hire you to do small tasks like bookkeeping, creative work, Pinterest pinning, email writing, and more. You get to decide what service packages you offer, your rates, and who you work for!

You don’t have to offer all services, only what you’re skilled at and want to offer. To get started, I recommend taking a simple VA training course like VA Ninja, and then finding work through VA Facebook groups and websites like outsourcingwithlove.com, which is where I found my first VA!

I have a VA help me with some writing tasks, some design tasks, and even my Pinterest pinning! So I can promise you, this is a real work from home job.

12. Social Media Manager

Do you have a knack for data analysis and trending topics? Are you in love with Instagram and learning all the new Tik Tok moves? Social Media Management may be a work from home career to look into. Thousands of companies, some of them right in your community, are looking for people to manage their online digital presence, which includes social media content creation, curation and management. Reach out to local companies that you’re interested in and see if perhaps you can help them reach a larger audience and hone in on their brand image!

You can also start your own Digital Marketing small business or start a Social Media Management gig on your own! In this niche, it’s all about how capable you are, no degree required.

This may take some time to build up, but this is a business that is booming and will continue to boom for years to come.

13. Freelance

Do you have writing, creative, or editing skills that would be useful to bloggers, small and large businesses, magazines, and more? Fiverr is a freelancing website where you can both hire freelancers and find freelance jobs. So if you are a writer, editor, proofreader, graphic designer, virtual assistant, or have another skill that can be done digitally, list your services on Fiverr

Be thorough in your bio and skill listing. Show potential clients that you’re ready to work and you’re sure to pick up some gigs!

Yes, these sites are hot, and yes, you really can get gigs from these sites! They are very active right now.

Also check out Freelancer.com or flexjobs.com which are very similar!

14. Pet Care and Dog Walking

Love animals? This work from home job would be perfect for you!

If you have house space and don’t mind pups as guests, you can run a sweet little pet sitting and boarding side hustle from home. Owners are always looking for loving individuals to watch their pets while they go on vacation or work trips.

This could also involve house calls for people who don’t need their pet watched full-time, but just need them to be checked on and fed. The easiest way to get started is to sign up as a pet sitter on Rover.com.

You can also get paid to walk dogs on Rover! My friend Vee has made over $6,000 with Rover, and she shares about it quite a bit on her Instagram! It’s definitely a legit work from home job.

Plus, Rover does all the hard work for you with a 20% fee per booking and you get paid 2 days after completing a service. Other pet sitting and pet boarding services to look into are Wag and even posts on Craigslist.

15. Photography

This is a great side hustle that can be built into a small or big business, depending on your skill level and determination! While photography does require time away from home to shoot photos, all the scheduling and editing can be done from home!

Even with the advent of the iPhone, families still look for their special moments to be captured by a professional. Many people have a tight budget and so even if you are a beginner, you can make money with discounted introductory rates.

You need to invest in a good starter camera (try Facebook Marketplace), a lens or two, some training, and editing software, and then you’re ready to go!

16. Data entry

Do you love and adore spreadsheets and organization? Are you a fan of numbers and efficiency? Well then, I have the perfect work from home job for you: Data entry! Data entry specialists typically work on medical record, reports, invoicing, and tasks along these lines.

If you have customer service, clerical experience, or administrative skills, this would be the perfect job for you. Here are 10 companies hiring data entry specialists.

17. Translator

If you know more than one language, you can use that skill to make a good chunk of change — at home! Being multilingual is a hot commodity in many companies, especially those with overseas operations and customer service departments. Here are 21 work from home translator jobs to check in to today!

18. Website Designer

If you have an eye for design and love to create seamless user experiences, try your hand at designing websites for different brands, bloggers and companies. Much like being a work from home Social Media Manager, there are small businesses right in your backyard that could either use a brush-up with their current website, or simply need one!

With drag and drop websites like Shopify, SquareSpace and Wix, this website design is a skill that you no longer need coding for. There are thousands of tutorials on how to do this and, the best part, is that the longer you do it, the better you get at it.

19. Website Tester

Did you know that you can get paid to be a website tester? I didn’t either, but it’s true! You can get paid up to $10 per website, just by going through and judging it! Can anyone say dream job?

Most companies that outsource this service are looking for unbiras user experience opinions. According to Bankrate, “Opportunities for this work, sometimes called “remote usability testing,” may be limited. Testers may be paid $10 to conduct a 20-minute test, for example. This is more of a side gig.”

20. Online Juror

Yes, this is actually a thing, and while you don’t get a free lunch out of it, you can make up to $150 per case! Check out eJury for more information!

21. Blogging, Youtube, or Instagram

If you have a passion for a certain topic and like to create content for social media, consider blogging, Youtube, or Instagram as a legit work from home job. Not everyone “makes it,” I guess you could say, because there are a lot of people who start blogs and channels with the intent of monetizing them to become a full-time job, but quit before they really get there.

However, it is a legit work from home job, and since it’s my work from home job, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it! I have a blog (you’re on it right now!) and an Instagram account that I use to generate $2,000-$10,000/mo of income for my family.

Blogging, Youtube, and Instagram are real work- they require content creation, creativity, tech skills, organization, knowledge and passion for a certain topic, consistency, design skills, and more – but the best part is, it’s really fun! Making money doing what I love to do and what I love to talk about is really exciting, so if you have a passion for something and are wondering if you can really make money blogging, yes- you can!

I don’t have my own blog post about how to start a blog, but there are hundreds already out there that are pretty good.

It can take some time to start making money, but it has very little startup costs so it’s kind of a good gig if you need something from home and have the patience to get it going slowly.

So, are work from home jobs legitimate? Well, I definitely think so (especially since I work from home!). And I hope this list of 20 legit work from home jobs has give you some amazing ideas to get started with!
